Background
The National Healthy Schools Programme is a long-term initiative which aims to make
a significant difference to the health and achievement of children and young people.
The programme recognises the links between health, behaviour and achievement; it
helps our children and young people to be healthy and happy at school - which allows
them to focus on learning and, long term, to do better in their adult life.
The programme focuses on four core themes:
- Personal, social & health education
- Healthy eating
- Physical activity
- Emotional health & wellbeing
Locally, the National Healthy Schools Programme is delivered by the Leicestershire
Healthy Schools Programme team, who work with our Leicestershire schools to help
them achieve and maintain Healthy School Status. To date, 98% of all Leicestershire
schools are participating in the programme, and 73% have achieved Healthy School
Status and are committed to maintaining their status.
